چکیده

Self-Compacting concrete (SCC) needs no external vibration and compacts fully under its self weight. This paper describes experimental work carried out to develop SCC and to study the effect of different sizes (i.e., 20mm; 16mm; 12.5mm and 10mm) of coarse aggregate (C.A) on the properties of SCC. Eight mixes were investigated for M30 grade concrete. The water-powder ratio was kept fixed throughout the SCC mixes. The superplasticizer (S.P)(Structuro 100) and viscosity modifying admixture (V.M.A)(Structo 480) dosages was determined from mortar trails. To achieve self-compacting properties, successive replacement of C.A by fine aggregate was adapted. Slump flow test, V-funnel test, J-ring test and L-box test on fresh concrete were carried out as per EFNARC guidelines. The compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength of the concrete after 7, 28 &56 days curing were also investigated. The test results showed how Self-Compacting properties were achieved as different sizes of C.A.

Effect of Slope Gradient and Soil Physical Properties on Soil Loss in Furrows of Rainfed Farms

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of slope gradient and soil physical properties (grain size distribution, bulk density, aggregate stability and permeability) on water erosion in the furrows of rainfed farms under fallow conditions. The furrows with 6 m length were installed in five rainfed farms with 6.1, 10.6, 14.8, 20.7 and 27.1% slope steepness at three replications. Resul...

Effects of Compactor Types on Aggregate Orientation of Asphalt Mixtures

More than 90% of Malaysian roads are constructed using asphaltic concrete. However, previous investigations of asphaltic concrete have mainly concentrated on the macroscopic properties of the composite materials based on the assumption that the mixtures are homogeneous and isotropic. This paper applies a digital image processing technique to compare the orientations of coarse aggregate particle...

Durability of Self-compacting Lightweight Aggregate Concretes (LWSCC) as Repair Overlays

For rehabilitation of damaged concrete structures, the durability of repair overlay is a very important issue. Self-compacting concretes (SCC) are known as a suitable repair overlay materials. In this study, the durability of different self-compacting lightweight aggregate concretes (LWSCC) and effect of lightweight aggregate type on them is investigated. 3 mix designs of LWSCC containing three...

Study of Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity Variations in Different Aggregate Size Distributions in an Agricultural Soil

Saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks) is one of the most important soil physical characteristics that plays a major role in the soil hydrological behaviour. It is mainly affected by the soil structure characteristics. Aggregate size distribution is a measure of soil structure formation that can affect Ks. In this study, variations of Ks were investigated in various aggregate size distributions ...

An Experimental Study on Effect of Waste Tire Rubber on the Fresh and Hardened Behavior of Self-compacting Concrete

The development of environmentally accepted methods of used tire disposal is one of the greatest challenges that waste management experts face today. Use of waste rubber particles as aggregate in self-compacting concrete is a suitable solution for the environmental hazards of waste tires being produced on a large scale. The aim of this work is to investigate the influence of the size of waste r...
